About the Artist

Alexandra Fields O'Neale (b. 1989) is a visual artist based in Miami, Florida. Her work explores themes of black identity, historical narratives and ancestral trauma through photography, video and sound art. Selected group exhibitions include Black Box Gallery, in Portland, Oregon (2020) and Art Serve in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (2020). Recently she has won a Knight Arts Challenge award for her project "Bound//Unbound" (2021).

She received a degree in Culture and Digital Media from The New School in New York in 2011. Her work invites others to meditate on the history of past ancestors and invite a shared experience to educate and digest truths that are not given an avenue to explore collectively. She navigates these subjects and histories in order for the viewer to come out the other side with a more dynamic understanding of ourselves and others.
